In honor of those who have served to set us free...
We salute you!
For those who have served and fallen to keep us free....
We remember.....
For you who are fighting to make sure we stay free.....
We honor you!!!
Let's take a minute on this day to stop, reflect, remember, and pray for those who are giving their time, their life, their all, to keep us free!

As I was reading through some blogs, I noticed that someone on Over Fifties shares the same name as me. To many, this is not so unusual. Many people through out the land have the same given name like Bill, Sue, Tom or Mary, etc...
Then there are us who are tagged with an unusual name, one that few people can pronounce correctly. I happen to have one of those names. My name comes from my grandmother and my great grandmother, which makes me very proud.
I' m sure there are many of you on here with very unique names also. I find it interesting how people come up with their profile names. There are so many unusual ones, and many of them have a history to tell.
By the way Delia, do you think your grandpa may have known my grandma in their younger years?, lol
Dee Happy Halloween all!

Hi everyone, hope all is well.....
Now I can say, I've seen a new thing! Have any of you heard of Cow Chip Bingo?
Being raised in the country all my life, and being my age, I thought I have seen and heard of most things but i think this may have topped as one of the most ... ah (it has me searching for words) one of most unique games, I have experienced seen played.
I have heard of Cow Chip Bingo before, but not really being interested in it, I never questioned how this game is played. In my mind, I was thinking there would be numbers called out with dry chips placed on a board....ha ha was I in for a surprise!
First of all, there were a hundred squares marked off on the ground. Each of these squares were sold to players who wanted to play the game .And as I understood, there would be given first, second and third place prizes.
Next comes the cow, yes the fair's prize steer! They say he was just a young thing , but from where I sat, he looked huge to me.... Well, anyway, the purpose of this game was for the bull to produce the chips, yeah, I laughed too!
Any way, you could feel the tension in the air, who would be the lucky winners? So we waited and we waited, and we waited some more.....this cow must have been cleaned out, because he was in no hurry to help us out. After minutes of hundreds of eyes watching and people getting restless, the officials started discussing what to do. I'm thinking change cows, or give the poor guy a laxative. In the end they decide to change cows, so they start leading this bull out of the arena, to bring in another. I look at my friend, and say, watch when they take him out..... Guess what, I was right! He had no more been led out of the pen, that he decides to let the chips fall, lol. By this time they are running behind schedule, so they decide to hold off the game until later in the day. I had saw enough , so I didn't stick around to see who won.
Oh what us Americans do for entertainment! ....

Being from a rural area, one of the highlights of the year, is our local County Fair!
Every Fall, for miles around people rush to the fairgrounds on Labor Day week-end to see what kind of events are lined up for our enjoyment.
Of course, there is always the annual events and activities, like the parade, horseshoe pitching, the county queen pageant, arm wrestling, and the highlight of the evening being the bull riding.
Each year, there is a theme to go along with the events taken place that given year. Well, this year being no exception, the theme picked was chickens. There were all kinds of games for the very young to the oldest, including chicken races, chicken dances and the most eggs-citing country band for our musical entertainment. Then there was the sexiest chicken legs contest. We had males from the age of six through the age of seventy four! My what a variety of legs did we get to view. Along with the showing of legs, they also had to perform a chicken dance for the judges, whom were the County Fair Queen and her court. It was a fun event, and I didn't realize chicken legs looked so different or that rooster's could crow so wildly. You can guess, the younger boy or the older gentleman didn't win! lol.
And each year I let my wilder side come out...I look forward to the bull riding and eating the best funnel cake around.. Well, I don't mean I ride the bulls, I like watching cowboys from near and far, crawling on the backs of those big fierce and charging bulls and trying with all their strength, to hang on for the few seconds it takes to win. Well this year, the weather decided not to cooperate, and just an hour before the bull riding was to begin, the heavens opened up and it began to pour down rain.Needless to say, the bulls were happy! and the cowboys went home with less money in their pockets. I did get to eat my funnel cake, even if i did have to stand out in the rain and wait in line for a while!
Oh, and one of my grandsons, got the Grand Championship of the 4-H pig showing! What a proud grandma...
It was a fun week-end for all... another year at the County Fair.
And I did have another first, while there. I'll tell you about in another blog...it deserves its own page, lol.

Are we ever to old to try something new, to do something for the first time? Is it like teaching an old dog new tricks? Well, I decided in 2009, that I was gonna do some things for the first time. Some of them are small things, things that no one else would be interested in, like eating certain foods for the first time, getting a professional massage, etc, and getting my hair colored, (oops)!
Then there are the bigger things like meeting and going on vacation with someone I met on the internet, which turned out awesome. Also being on Over Fifties is also a first for me, and writing blogs.... Well , I never dreamed, it would be something I would do as a first. I must say, I am enjoying it very much. It is so exciting to read what others have to say, to see ones personality come out in written form. And the biggest first for me will be coming in October, which I will tell you about after the fact.
Have any of you had the experience of trying something new, just because you want to? My list grows longer each day, and I just have to decide what I want to try next! After all, why let life pass me by?
But first, I have to.....
