Welcome to ozzball's blog!

OK, I kept my counsel for long enough so here are my 2 cent's worth on the whole 'Fifties' relationships thing which is rapidly becoming one of the site's biggest agenda items.
There are members who come into 'fifties' seeking genuine friendship myself being one of them, I am of the opinion that a friendship formed in this space is of the purest kind. It can and should be totally non-judgmental as there are no 'cosmetic' attributes that come into play. By this I mean race, religion, gender, wealth, political views, education, appearance, fashion sense, body shape etc. etc. etc. From the word go everyone should be, and usually is, accepted for the contribution that they make (or the help and support that they need).
I have personally found everyone in 'fifties' to be accepting and genuinely interested in me as a person and, during my relatively short time as a member of this community, have found at least one kindred spirit who I hope will be a friend for life.
All of that having been said, I find myself wondering what it is that leads us, as a group of intelligent people, to indulge in open antagonism toward one another. The very nature of this site means that everyone here is going to be approaching, if not already in, the autumn of their lives. I must resort to the words of Lennon and McCartney and say that 'Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends'.
Some members find themselves with divided loyalties, some leave and are never heard of again and others, the minority, continue to apparently revel in the discomfiture of others who often are not in a position to respond in kind.
I realize that we are members of an open forum and that we should be able to reasonably express our views, invite constructive criticism and be prepared to accept those comments in an intelligent way. Recent 'exchanges' have hardly lived up to this ideal and that saddens me.
OK. my friends, that's it, it's off my chest and I stand ready for any comments, good, bad or indifferent, that may come my way, just hang on a minute while I put on my tin helmet.
Cheers
Ozz
