View Full Version : A camel named Clyde ?

Some ill-informed female named Erin Burnett threw a wobbly on America's CNBC channel.
She called Australia's Prime Minister a "murderer" and a "serial killer" for approving a cull of introduced, feral CAMELS which are devastating Central Australia.
She said we would be doing this using "airstrikes"
Apparently, this bird appeared topless for some Yank men's mag called Maxim and allegedly has some senior role with Citigroup
(which might say something about the global financial crisis which America has dumped on the world).

JUST A FEW COMMENTS WHICH HAVE APPEARED HERE ABOUT THIS -

"Geez, she's really 'got the hump' hasn't she?!

"From a country that all but wiped out the NATIVE bison .....

"I hope she doesn't find out im having Koala Kebabs for dinner tonight...

"Why not charge Americans $2000 to shoot them with rocket-launchers?"

"Don't worry about it. I just Twittered that camels are full of oil. They're gone.

"Would the Americans be more happy if there were an Arab strapped to the camel??

"I find this hilarious coming from the biggest gun toting, hunting nation in the world!

"Thank God there is a place called America - Where else would we put all the yanks??

" At last the Americans have achieved it... their bombs are now smarter than their people...

"Shes right. Airstrikes should only be used on poor people or as friendly fire. Not wasted on feral animals.

" Oh yeah - let them all starve slowly to death as they outnumber their food resources. That's far more humane.

"If we tell the yanks that the camels are Weapons of Mass Destruction, maybe they will come over and wipe them out for free.

" Our 'airstrikes' are someone in a helicopter with a rifle not squads of F-15 fighter jets bombing the area ... America we are laughing at you, not with you !!!

"I'm an Aussie living in the States. This crazy woman needs to look in her own backyard. Here they hunt everything, if it moves shoot it!! It's a disgrace.

I've listened to the yank thing enough. Yes, we make a LOT of mistakes as a nation, but one has to realize that there are US citizens who do NOT believe in war, who do NOT believe in the power struggle for oil, who DO understand that animal populations have to be controlled for the good of all. There are those of us who do NOT hunt, who do NOT own guns, and do not support those who do. Our nation is made up of individuals. We are not just one big huge person called the UNITED STATES. I don't judge any individual on race, creed, nationality, sexual preference- I judge them by how they treat others. I judge MYSELF by how I treat others. Fred, you wanted to get a rise out of me and you finally have- not because you bash yanks, or women, or cats, or camels, but because you lump me and many others in the same category when you haven't explored who these people are. I enjoy talking to you, and I enjoy our little banters, but please give me credit for not following the "American" stereotype. You'd be surprised how many of us don't.

Mugsy, you said it best. Fred, you need to stop equating everything some idiot says to the entire United States. I agree with you about a lot of what goes on in the world, but there is such a thing as over generalization. Whoever this woman is she apparently doesn't have a clue about the real world and doesn't speak for the entire US. I'm sure you have idiots in Australia also, but I certainly wouldn't take whatever they say as speaking for the entire nation.

Fred, you wanted to get a rise out of me and you finally have ....because you lump me and many others in the same category ........................That was NOT my intent - and I don't. What I SAID was -SOME ILL-INFORMED FEMALE .....
SHE called Australia's Prime Minister a ................
SHE said we would be ........................The quotes which followed were not MY pearls of wisdom but reactions by others - which I thought was fairly clear.

Of COURSE I realize that Yanks, like Aussies or Kiwis or Canuks or Iraqis or Cubans ...... are a mixed bunch.
In this instance, I merely pointed out what ONE stupid Yank had said and I thought that you INTELLIGENT Americans might be interested in the type of responses those comments had generated - SOME of which I thought quite witty.

Stereotyping is ALWAYS silly. I know that.
It has been made crystal clear to me by many in these forums over the years that Aussies are oft perceived as a nation of convicts, unrefined and all cut in the mold of Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin.

If someone in here posts that Australia has treated refugees abysmally or that we have kow-towed to America far too often or that, as tourists, many are drunken slobs... etc
I do not take that as a personal affront.
It is all perfectly true ..... and I wouldn't feel that the poster was necessarily lumping ALL Aussies into the same grab-bag.

U should choose your words more carefully fred as u are coming across very badly and upset far too many good people in here. I have had ur constant Yank bashing to the back teeth too, and I am not a Yank, as u know, but do find it VERY tedious and repetitive! You have made yourself UBUNDANTLY clear, and constantly, how u feel, so give us ALL a rest from it, huh, PLEASE?

And frankly dear Eye, I find your constant whining a bit tiresome as well.
There was NO Yankbashing in my post - at least not by ME - and not Yanks as a species.

It may seem otherwise to those who CHOOSE to see the worst
but if, via my Profile, you check out my posts in their totality, you will find that only a very small minority have anything whatever to do with America or Americans.
And not all of those are critical.

Eye, how about YOU contributing something postive, interesting or thought-provoking for a change - instead of just nagging and griping.
It would be refreshing.
C'MON, I KNOW you can do it.
Yes you CAN !!!

Okay Fred, scratch my last post! I didn't read it thoroughly enough and can only use as a excuse that I had only had one cup of coffee, as opposed to my usual 6 or 7. I am now awake and realize that indeed you did not lump us all together...and yes, some of the quotes were pretty funny! Unfortunately some were also uncomfortably on target.

I also have to retract part of my statement. I didn't like the comments that were made by others, Fred. When I posted my response, I had just come out of a situation where I was being encouraged NOT to talk to you in chat. It seems that those of us who do are "encouraging" unwanted comments. As an adult, I tried to explain that those who reacted were the ones encouraging things. It was not taken very well. My humble apologies. You and I get along well, and I look forward to more discussions.
