USALady, I hope this answers your question.

Specification of the Wall
When the Berlin wall was starting to be constructed is consisted mainly of barbed wire and armed guards. It did not take much time for the wall to be fortified. After it was done the wall was 107 km long and 4 m high in most places. It was constructed with a concrete wall with a concrete tube placed on top. On the East Berlin side was a lighted control area. Anyone who reached this area were shot on sight, without warning. This is where most people were caught. Then moving away from the control area toward East Berlin was a deep trench to prevent vehicles from breaking through the wall. In front of this was a patrol track that had attack dogs, bunkers, and guard towers. Finally there was a second, smaller wall. In total the wall cut through 192 streets.

Oh thank you much Tori. Could there be more to the wall than cement? There has been rock formations about and stated it is from the Berlin Wall, an item for collectors.

I lived in France when that wall was put up and my son was living in Germany when it came down. I told him he had to bring a piece of it home for me. He picked up three pieces that had grafitti on them and had them mounted on a plaque for me. There are little pebbles in them.

Hi USA Lady. Haven't seen you around for awhile. Good to see that smiling face!

Tori, where have you been? Did you get my PM? Good info on the wall.

Edith, the pebbles are probably mixed in with the cement. I imagine cement is made of different mix in different countries, depending on what they have available to work with. So you have a piece of history. Remember Reagan saying, "Tear down that wall!"?
