Does anyone know what are the best gas savers as far as cars? I have a van and love it, but it is a gas eater!
Now that the kids are grown and driving themselves. I m
thinking of in the future of getting a car to save on gas. I dont want to spend a lot of money and I can with even a used car or truck. If I had my way it would be a truck! but what kind is a gas saver?? I know the hybreds are the best bet but I cant afford anything like that! Anyone have any ideas?

Hi MistyRose....My recommendation would be a Toyota for best performance and reliability....it also has some highly rated "best mileage" models. If you want a truck, I would recommend a Toyota Tacoma. It gets 21mpg in the city and 26 on the hwy. Otherwise, the Toyota Prius gets 60 in the city and 51 on the hwy....which is at the top of the list for Best Mileage Cars. My daughter just got a Toyota Yaris brand new for $12,000 and loves it but the mileage is average. My mother has had her Toyota RAV forever and has never needed any repairs and she says the gas mileage is good. I have a 2003 Toyota Lexus SUV 300RX that i bought used with 9,000 mi on it for $29,000...but was still a bit pricey and the mileage is just average I think....but i LOVE the car and have never had anything done to it. It's plushy comfy!! And it drives so smooth and nice! I bought it used from CarMax....a reputable used car place here. I wouldn't recommend buying one that is used unless you are very thorough and know what you're doing or buy from someone VERY reputable. I've owned lots of other brands of cars because i had four kids and bought them all cars and replaced them a few times (i know, i know...saying no was my weakness). I hope this was helpful.

We recently purchased a Honda Civic and are very pleased with the gas mileage and size. The "07" models are larger and quite comfortable on long trips and have ample storage capacity. These are highly rated by Consumers Report and maintain value. The mileage will vary depending on the driver. Professional drivers often set the advertised mileage rating but we are pleased.

The old Ford Escort was great on millage. I read that the Saturn gets good millage too, but one son tells me that he has them in the shop often.
