An interesting fact about George W. Bush
The only person sentenced death in Texas that had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment by George W. Bush while he was governor of Texas was Henry Lee Lucas. 189 murders had been cleared and attributed to Lucas. The exact number of murders committed by Lucas is unknown, but is widely accepted to be over 300.
I find it interesting that bush commuted the death sentence of the most prolific serial killer in American history but thought it funny to mock Karla Fay Tucker before she was executed in Texas. |

Not 100% sure about this one, Sky.
This humble Aussie had never HEARD of Henry Lee Lucas but a brief glance at Wikki suggests there might be very real doubt about the numbers - and certainly about his coerced "confessions". I mean, it seems that this one was one evil S.O.B. And Im the last person on the planet to defend Bush the Butcher. But if there were legal shortcomings about the specific crimes on which he was convicted ..... ? AND "the TEXAS BOARD OF PARDON AND PAROLE voted to commute Lucas's death sentence to life imprisonment, in accordance with Governor George W. Bush's REQUEST ........ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Lee_Lucas Perhaps a scapegoat was found to 'clear up' a whole bunch of crimes which Lucas had nothing whatever to do with. The authorities seem quite certain that MOST of those he confessed to were not his doing. Perhaps, by keeping the freak alive they hoped to gradually separate the wheat from the chaff which would enable them to go after a whole bunch of killers who are still out there footloose and fancy-free .. ? Dunno. Last edited by Cuz : 11-01-2009 at 04:17 PM. |

Lucas was a pal of Ottis Toole. Ottis murdered little Adam Walsh. John Walsh his father fought for many years for justice for Adam.

I have to say that I'm not an advocate of the death penalty for any crime. I also agree with you that Lucas was probably tagged with some murders in order to clear the books (particularly considering the Texas justice system).
My post was more of a comment on GWB’s only recommendation for leniency while he signed the death warrants of another 152 persons then it was on the guilt or innocence of Lucas. I wonder how his mind works. What motivates him to do what he does? |

So this is the first time you've heard of a politician being inconsistent...or saying one thing and doing another...or being influenced to do "favors"?
