WWW
What does that mean?
That stands for World Wide Web which is the name given to computers linked together around the World.

What is the Internet?
The same answer as above. Very similar anyway.

How difficult is it to learn?
Very simple really, but get someone to show you. Books can be baffling as this is all so new to us over fifties.

Do I need to understand the technical side of things?
No. No more than you do with your car or telephone

How expensive is it?
Not very expensive. A computer can be installed for say between $500 - $2000. The on-going running costs are very low. For what it offers it is very, very, cheap.

What time of the day can I use it?
Anytime. Just anytime day or night, seven days a week.

What about the dangers
e.g. strangers getting my address etc?

We do need to be careful and there are rules to follow. Overall it's very safe.

Can I leave my computer switched on all night?
Yes. But normally best to turn it off plus it saves power

How do I get my overfifties.com on my screen?
Just type in www.overfifties.com in the gap at the top of your browser. The best way is to get one of your children or grand children, who can show you. Get someone to show you how to store on your favourites.

Why is the control called a mouse?
I suppose its because it looks like one.

Why do we just click the left side of the mouse?
No idea and I couldn't care less, just use it for now. Some computers (like "Apple Macs") only have one button anyway.

 

I'd like to set my computer to come back to this website easily instead of typing in the address each time. How do I book mark it?

Firstly try clicking on the button 'Bookmark this site' on the left in the green. If this does not work read on.
Best to write down or print out these instructions first:

If you are using a "browser" (Programme) called Internet Explorer follow (A)

or

If you are using a "browser" (Programme) called Netscape Communicator follow (B)

1) Go back to the home page
2) Move the mouse up to where it says "Favourites" at the top of your screen
3) Go down to "Add Page to Favourites"
4) That's it! Next time you connect to the internet all you need to do is go to
your favourites and let go on "overfifties.com"

(B)
