Getting rid of ants
Author: Winner Still

One thing I have found that works so good...is oats. Plain oatmeal, uncooked of course. Just make a small pile off to the side somewhere close to where they are coming into the house. Let them eat all they want. Add to the little pile if you see them still coming to feed. Do not disturb them, that is so important with the ants. This should work for roaches of all sorts also.
My mother told me once they fill up, then drink water and explode. Not true. The scientist say they die of dehydration. Sad but true. It is them or you. You feel no remorse when you spray, do you ?
Now when taking care of outside, I suggest you put oats, (or grits, cornmeal), under a bowl or cup or something to keep the birds from gathering. Don't want the birds falling over, just the bugs. In North Carolina we have what are called fire ants...not sure if this works for them, but will let you know in the spring. The wonderful thing about the fire ants is they stay in the open, they love the heat, so they don't go up and into the houses like all the other ants that get into the walls, attics, etc.
I have fought ants with everything I could find at the store and am so damaged in my lungs...can no longer afford to spray any chemicals. The oatmeal works, it is cheap and won't harm anyone in the household. What have you got to loose by trying ? Just ants, roaches and a little oatmeal. Oh, and I say don't disturb so they can take it back to the nest, to be fed to everyone else. When ants are disturbed, they stop feeding and move the whole colony or nest.
