Little gold fish
By Annie Thornton
It was a lovely quite cool evening and the heat of the day had gone.
The three little gold fish were thankful to find a small rock cave
around their new pool, where they could hide and rest a while.
When they did come out for a look around, they hoped to find some
dinner on their rock table, at the end of the pool. Like all young
things they had to have a game of "chacy", and were very careful not to
have a nose to tail accident, in their hurry. There was no dinner
there, so the lilies were happy to have their leaves cleaned. So glad
were they, that they decided to grow some more new leaves and, latter,
some lovely flowers, pink ones, to float among them.
The shy fishes became more confidant, and the lilies
were content to hide them from the Kingfisher bird, perching up in the
tree above.
He'd watched them for a long, long time. Their golden backs were so very brilliant as the son shone on them.
Finally though, he'd decided he couldn't wait any
longer for his fish dinner, so he flew away. The fishes were too quick
for him.

But then the Hedgehog was thirsty. He could smell the
lovely cool water, and managed to get down to the racks, carefully
holding on tightly with his toes. The little fishes did get a fright
though, and quickly swam away when they flipped their tails under his
nose as he drank, to see him lose his grip, fall, in and drown.
Then along came "Tabatha" the cat to have a look in,
but disdainfully, went on her way. She had seen those sorts of fishes
before.
She didn't have time to waste, trying to catch them. She was far too
hungry to wait. I wondered, as I sat on the rock, and watched the
serene life of the little fishes. Do you think, if we live, happily, with kindness where we can, that, most of our fears are ground less?
And that the calamities of life just pass us by, unnoticed?
